    Castillo de la Real Fuerza
    Built in 1558 by King Felipe II, and used by military leaders until 1762. The tower is topped with the famous weathervane in honor of Doña Inés de Bobadilla, Cuba's only woman governor.

    Casa Natal de José Martí
    Birthplace of José Martí, the father of the nation, in 1853. Considered the most brilliant Latin American writer and political analyst of his day, Marti wrote three volumes of poetry and was even imprisoned for an article he wrote when he was 15, considered treasonous by Spanish rulers. Marti lit the fuse on Cuban independance. He died fighting the Spanish in 1895.

    Castillo de San Carlos de la Cabaña (La Cabaña)
    The largest fort in Cuban history, home to 1,000 soldiers, dating back to 1763. Every evening at 9pm is the ceremonia del cañonazo (ceremony of the cannon shot) in honour of the military history of the Cuban people.
